چکیده

Dean of the Graduate College ii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to express my appreciation towards my Master's Adviser, Dr. Kenneth E. Case for his guidance through the entire research. I would like to thank him for the great amount of patience that he showed right through the years that I worked under him. He has been a source inspiration to me over this time and I believe that he has played an integral role in all of my academic achievements during this period. I would like to thank my committee members Dr. Manjunath Kamath and Dr. David B. Pratt for their willingness to serve on the committee and for their help through the entire process. I would like to specially thank Dr. Kamath for working with me on various aspects through my Master's degree and in part serving as my unofficial adviser. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. I would like to thank my Mother for supporting me in every perceivable way that she found possible, without whose encouragement, I would not have considered such a venture. Lastly, I would like to thank the members of the CCIME center for their cooperation and help through my years of working with them.

Identifiability Issues in Dynamic Stress-Strength Modeling

In many real life scenarios, system reliability depends on dynamic stress-strength interference where strength degrades and stress accumulates concurrently over time. In some other cases, shocks appear at random time points, causing damage which is only effective at the instant of shock arrival. In this paper, we consider the identifiability problem of a system under deterministic strength degr...

Sequential-Based Approach for Estimating the Stress-Strength Reliability Parameter for Exponential Distribution

In this paper, two-stage and purely sequential estimation procedures are considered to construct fixed-width confidence intervals for the reliability parameter under the stress-strength model when the stress and strength are independent exponential random variables with different scale parameters. The exact distribution of the stopping rule under the purely sequential procedure is approximated ...

Reliability computation under dynamic stress-strength modeling with cumulative stress and strength degradation

Reliability function is defined under suitable assumptions for dynamic stressstrength scenarios where strength degrades and stress accumulates over time. Methods for numerical evaluation of reliability are suggested under deterministic strength degradation and cumulative damage due to shocks arriving according to a Poisson process using simulation method and inversion theorem. These methods are...

Dynamic Reliability Analysis of Mechanical Components Based on Equivalent Strength Degradation Paths

In the design stage of mechanical components, the uncertainty in both the environmental load and the material parameters needs to be taken into consideration and a safety margin is required to guarantee the intrinsic reliability of mechanical components. The safety factor is comprehensively used in the practical design of mechanical components, which is industry specific and determined by the e...

Fuzzy reliability using a discrete stress-strength interference model

Conclusions This paper uses a fuzzy linesegment method to calculate the fuzzy unreliability of a system when only discrete-interval probabilities of stress & strength inside an interference region are available. The discrete-interval probabilities are treated as fuzzy numbers. A stress-strength interference model and extended operations of fuzzy numbers are used to calculate the fuzzy unreliabi...
